Pricing, explained

What actually drives the cost of gutters in Arizona.

We don’t publish a price list, and we’ll explain why. What we will do is show you exactly what moves the number, so you can read any quote you receive — ours or anyone else’s — and know what you’re looking at.

The six things that move the price

1. Linear footage of roofline

This is the foundation of every gutter quote. It is not the square footage of your house and it is not the size of your lot — it is how many feet of roof edge need to carry water. Two homes with identical square footage can differ substantially here depending on the roof's shape and how many separate runs it breaks into.

2. Single storey or two

Height changes everything about how the work is done: the equipment, the setup time, the crew size and the safety requirements. A two-storey job is meaningfully more than a single-storey job of the same footage, and any quote that does not reflect that is worth a second look.

3. Roof type

Tile, shingle and flat or low-slope roofs each attach differently and shed water differently. Tile is extremely common across the Valley and takes more care at the edge. Low-slope roofs with parapets often need scuppers and overflow provisions rather than conventional gutters, which is a different scope of work entirely.

4. Gutter size and material

Five-inch and six-inch K-style are both common. Six-inch carries substantially more water and is the right call on larger roof areas, steeper pitches and anywhere a lot of surface drains to a single run. Material grade matters too — heavier aluminium holds its line better over long spans, which is what you want when monsoon wind is part of the equation.

5. Gutter guards

Guards are priced per linear foot on top of the gutter itself, so they scale with the size of the job. Worth doing in the right circumstances, and we will be straight with you about where they are and are not worth it — there is more on that on the gutter guards page, including the honest limitation of micro-mesh in a dust climate.

6. What is behind the gutter

This is the one that surprises people. Gutters hang off the fascia board, so the fascia has to be sound. If yours has soft or rotted sections — often caused by years of not having gutters — that has to be repaired first. We sub that carpentry out and we tell you before we do. It is the most common reason a final number differs from a phone estimate.

Reading a cheap quote

When we lose a job on price the gap is usually about twenty percent. That gap is rarely magic — it almost always traces to a specific decision. If a quote comes in well under the others, ask what it specifies for:

  • Material thickness. Thinner aluminium costs less and oil-cans and dents more easily.
  • Hanger spacing. Fewer hangers is faster and cheaper, and it is why gutters sag.
  • Corners. Snap-in box miters are quick. Hand-cut strip miters take longer and hold a cleaner line.
  • Hardware. Downspout straps and fasteners are where cost gets quietly cut. They are also what fails first.
  • Who is doing the work. Ask whether the crew is employed by the company or subcontracted.
  • Licensing. Arizona requires a licence for work over $1,000. Ask for the ROC number and look it up.

None of that means the cheaper company is bad. It means you are comparing two different products, and you should know which one you are buying.

Ours, for the record

AZ ROC #365076 (CR-45). Formed on site with our own roll-forming machine. Hand-cut strip-mitered corners. Employed crew, not subcontracted. 50-year material warranty and 5-year workmanship warranty, in writing.

Questions about pricing

Why will you not just publish a price?
Because a number on a web page is either so broad it is useless or so specific it is wrong. Two houses on the same street can differ by a factor of two once you account for roofline length, height, roof type and what shape the fascia is in. We give a rough range on the phone in a few minutes and an exact price on site, and both are free.
What is the single biggest factor?
Linear footage of roofline. Everything else adjusts around it. The second biggest is whether the work is single or two storey, because height changes the equipment, the crew time and the safety requirements.
Is a cheaper quote always worse?
No, but it is always worth understanding. When we lose a job on price the gap is usually around twenty percent, and that gap normally traces to something specific: thinner material, wider hanger spacing, pre-formed box miters instead of hand-cut corners, cheaper hardware, or subcontracted labour. None of those are visible on day one. All of them are visible in year five.
Do you price match?
Bring us the competing quote and we will go through it with you line by line. Where we can beat it without compromising the work, we will. Where we cannot, we will show you exactly what the difference buys you and let you decide.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, through Acorn and Hearth.
